A bit of history leveled

(Driftless Multimedia photo by Roz Weis)

A large portion of the old North Winneshiek School north of Decorah was demolished earlier this month. A year ago, the Decorah Community School Board approved a bid of $460,000 from Wicks Construction of Decorah for the school building and two land parcels. North Winn was a public school district in northern Winneshiek County for many decades, opening in 1964. The school closed its doors permanently in 2019. Due to increased costs of building upkeep, the Decorah Board voted to sell the building and its contents at an auction last fall.
