Laura Day is a “must attend” event for all Laura Ingalls Wilder enthusiasts.
Festivities for Laura Day in Burr Oak June 22 will be highlighted by a parade, pie auction, the crowning of Little Miss Laura and Young Almanzo, raffle prizes and plenty of food and entertainment.
Attendees will step back in time to the pioneer days as the childhood home of the famed author will be decked out for the annual event, now in its 47thyear.
Organizers are keeping the spirit of the Wilder family alive with a long list of scheduled activities.
Friday’s highlights include bingo and entertainment by the JR Brink Band.
Activities on Saturday get under way at 10 a.m. Saturday’s highlights include tours of the Masters Hotel, food tents, children’s pioneer games, crafts and activities the noon parade down 236th Avenue from north to south, pie auction at 1:45.
An event titled “Packing Up” will commence at 1 p.m. as visitors will look in on Laura Ingalls Wilder as she packs up to move from Iowa to Missouri. Each artifact housed in an old chest holds a story. Sarah Uthoff will be the presenter.
Recognition of the 2024 Little Miss Laura and Young Almanzo will follow the pie auction on Saturday afternoon. A coloring contest, bean bag tournament and entertainment by the Joe Cody Band will complete the day’s activities.
Sunday’s highlights include a 10 a.m. gospel music service with Sister Luv at the entertainment tent on the museum grounds. Bingo, hymns and hops, and museum tours complete the day’s activities.
Rain location for Saturday’s activities is Burr Oak Lutheran Church.
