2,040 positive COVID 19 cases, 33 deaths in county to date

Iowa Department of Health data released May 2 shows 3 new positive cases in Winneshiek County in the past seven days.

Iowa State Department of Health’s COVID-19 reporting service released the new data of positive caseloads throughout the state. According to the May 2 report, there have been total of 3 positive cases in Winneshiek County in the past seven days. There have been 2,040 positive cases and 33 virus-related deaths in the county since reporting began more than a year ago in March of 2020.

Data from nearby counties

In Allamakee County, there were 4 positive cases in the past seven days. Howard County shows 1 new positive case. Chickasaw County has had 5 positive tests in a week. Fayette County had 2 new cases in the last seven days, and Clayton County COVID-19 case totals for the past seven days are listed at 3 new cases.

Area deaths attributed to COVID-19 are listed as follows: Winneshiek County, 33; Allamakee County, 51; Howard County, 22; Chickasaw County, 15; Fayette County, 41; and Clayton County, 56.

Public Health officials across the country highlighted the importance of continued use of masks, frequent hand-washing and social-distancing, especially as cases continue to increase throughout the state. Vaccines are becoming more readily available to the general public.
