He and his partner, Gary Barness, lived in a new house in Aurora, Colo., and they had what many would consider a good life, but for Nick, something just wasn’t quite right. Their life together wasn’t pretty enough, and so in 2018 the couple set out to remedy that deficit when they purchased their new home at 107 W. North Street in Calmar, which includes nearly two acres of yard, which Nick was determined to make pretty.

This was a slower week here at the Capitol. However, even though the week was slow, it was nonetheless important. On Tuesday the House passed a bill involving reimbursement rates for childcare assistance. Then on Wednesday, the Capitol was visited by the Iowa Honey Producers Association, as well Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley. Finally, on Thursday, the Capitol was visited by the Iowa Public Transit Association and the Iowa Association of Councils of Governments.

Now that the second funnel has come and gone, the legislative session is entering the final stretch. This week was mainly spent passing simple bills that made their way through the funnel, except for HF 259 which expands eligibility of Veterans benefits, and the AEA bill that made its way over from the Senate. Outside of legislation, the Capitol, as usual, was filled with visitors. Some of the visitors I met with included Iowa PBS, middle school students from Fayette County, and members of the Iowa Pork Producers Association.
