Art and adventure film collection to be shown March 16 in Lanesboro

Lanesboro Arts of Lanesboro, Minn., continues its longstanding collaboration with the Winona, Minn.-based Frozen River Film Festival (FRFF), with a special set of short documentary films from this year’s festival. Five short films will be available for viewing Saturday, March 16, at the historic St. Mane Theatre in Lanesboro beginning at 7 p.m.

Friends of Pool 9 to celebrate 100 years March 9

This year, local non-profit organization the Friends of Pool 9 – Mississippi River Refuge, will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the nationally-recognized refuge. To kick off its centennial year of existence, the group is holding a special event on Saturday, March 9, at TJ Hunters Banquet Hall in Lansing. The educational program and concert are open to the public at no charge.

The first week of debate is always an enjoyable, if not demanding, time at the Capitol. As the Legislature wipes the dust off their microphones, there’s a sense of fulfillment in seeing legislation pass on the floor, knowing that Iowans will benefit as a result.

She recently turned 95, and with a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and decades of involvement developing nature centers near Milwaukee, she likely has greater experience than any other volunteer here in encouraging wild plants to grow. Jerri has logged more than 1,100 hours as a Northeast Iowa RSVP volunteer at the Decorah garden alone.

Last year the legislature passed a bill that required the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) to hire an outside consultant and take a deep dive into Iowa’s energy code sections. This is something that hasn’t been looked at in 20 years.
