Primary voter turnout “average”

Voter turnout was “average” for Tuesday’s Primary Election, according to Winneshiek County Auditor Ben Steines. A total of 2,587 ballots were cast in the county, with 940 residents voting absentee.

Heivly Street to be closed June 7

The City of Decorah has notified residents that Heivly Street between Mill Street and Mechanic Street will be closed Tuesday, June 7, starting at 7 a.m. Traffic will be detoured to Water Street. The closure is to allow for connection of a new water service.

There has been much hub-bub recently concerning the sighting of a black bear through its trek through Winneshiek County within the last week, it has been confirmed that the bear was shot and killed Tuesday.
