DHS Band presents Spring Concert and Percussion Choir premiere piece

The Decorah Band Department will be present the annual Spring Concert Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The Percussion Choir will present the debut performance of “Through Perseverance We Continue,” composed by Iowa’s own Cory J. McBride. Funded by the Decorah Music Boosters, this piece stands as a heartfelt tribute to the memory of Jerry “JD” Dean and Erick Fadness.

OVCC concert April 28

The Oneota Valley Community Orchestra (OVCO), under the direction of Matthew Cody, will conclude its 10th season with a Finale Concert on Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m. at the Decorah High School Auditorium.

Renovations underway at historic fort

Among the renovations planned at the Fort are replacing flooring, installing water mitigation and drainage systems and replacing windows in the North Barracks. The blockhouse project includes mortar joint repairs, as well as wall, door, and roof repairs and replacement.

Creed Monroe elected to state FFA office

The Decorah FFA Chapter recently announced one of its own members has been elected to serve as a 2024-2025 Iowa State FFA Officer. Creed Monroe was elected to serve as the Iowa FFA State Northeast District Vice President.

Jeramiah Rediske selected “Stars Over Iowa” honoree

The 2024 Stars Over Iowa Winners were announced at the 96th Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference at Iowa State University on April 16; and one “Star Over Iowa” honoree is Jeramiah Rediske of the Decorah FFA Chapter.

Black Hawk Bridge at Lansing is open to traffic

According to a release from the Iowa Department of Transportation, the Black Hawk Bridge over the Mississippi River from Lansing is now open to traffic.

Library to host May book discussions

Decorah Public Library staff will host five book discussions in May. The groups are open to the public and newcomers are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested should call the library at 382-3717 to learn more or to reserve a book. Email ktorresdal@decorahlibrary.org to be added to any of the five groups’ email distribution lists. Funds for multiple copy sets were provided by Friends of Decorah Public Library.

Sacquitne is new events manager

DHS donates prom grand march proceeds to HSNEI

Decorah High School hosted the 2024 Prom, which included the Grand March, dance, and Post Prom, on Saturday, April 13, and proceeds from the festivities went to the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa.
