Council votes down proposed changes to Decorah’s ordinance related to digital and electronic signs

According to the current ordinance, all types of lit signs are prohibited, unless the business received a variance from the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment (BOA), or the building site plans included lit signs and was approved by city council at the time of construction.

City Manager sheds light on issues regarding Decorah’s digital and electronic signs ordinance

“Currently, according to the digital and electronic sign code, no digital or electronic signs should be permitted in Decorah. However, there are numerous signs in town —like Culver’s and McDonalds — that have been allowed by variances from the city’s Board of Adjustment of Zoning, or the sign could have potentially been part of the site plan when the business was being constructed.”

Fravel’s defense seeks change of venue

Attorneys for Adam Fravel, accused of murder in the March 31, 2023 disappearance and killing of Madeline Kingsbury, filed a motion Friday, Jan. 19, seeking dismissal of first-degree premeditated murder charges.  Additionally, the defense filed a motion for change of venue, asking the trial be moved from Winona Count.
