Good effort by SW girls in UIC action

A late run by Central Elkader (6-5, 4-4 UIC) was enough for the Warriors to pick up a victory Tuesday night in Elkader, defeating the South Winn girls’ basketball team (4-6, 3-5 UIC) 47-40.

Simon champion, Viking girls runner-up at Donnybrook

After day one of the Dan Gable Donnybrook tournament last week, the Class 1A No. 1 Decorah girls wrestling team sat in first in the team standings; however, as the event wrapped up Friday the Vikes fell to second with one of their own standing atop the podium.
Raccoon River-Northwest took the top spot with 344.5 points while Decorah secured runner-up with 287.5 points. Ankeny rounded out the top three teams with 277.

Decorah bowling teams sweep TigerHawks

It was a big night for the Decorah bowling program Friday as both the girls and boys picked up victories at Lilac Lanes in West Union.
Facing North Fayette Valley, it was the second win for both squads, improving them to 2-0.

Decorah boys return to the pool at relay event

Saturday, the Decorah boys’ swim team traveled to Dubuque to take part in the Ram Relays. In the relay-only event, the Vikes finished fifth with 44 points. Cedar Falls was the team champion with 94 points.

Sexton collects silver at Dan Gable Donnybrook tourney

Eight Viking grapplers finished in the top 20 of the prestigious Dan Gable Donnybrook tournament held in Coralville over the weekend, including a runner-up spot for Tommy Sexton.
As a team, the Decorah boys’ wrestling team finished in 25th place with 135.5 points. Class 3A No. 2 Bettendorf was crowned the champion with 366.5 points.

SW’s Kuboushek, Lienau invite champions

The tournament season has begun for the South Winn boys’ wrestling team as it competed at the Chris Davis Invite Saturday, hosted by Wapsie Valley.
Nashua-Plainfield, ranked No. 8 in Class 1A, won the event with 262.5 points. South Winn came in sixth with 89 points.
