“We faced an excellent Waukon team who had come off a tough loss. We knew that they would play hard and with pride. Many of these players had started on their state championship team last year,” said Coach Patrick Trewin.

Vikes survive Saints in five sets to move to 5-0

Wednesday, September 1, 2021 4:34 pm

After a successful week one, the Decorah volleyball team (5-0, 0-0 NEIC) hosted Saint Ansgar (1-3) Tuesday, winning 3-2.
Set scores were 25-7, 22-25, 25-19, 22-25 and 15-11.
“This was a challenging match for us to work through as Saint Ansgar is a very scrappy volleyball team. They didn’t let the ball hit the floor and chased down some big plays. One of the biggest take aways from the match was our poor serve receive. We know that the girls know that, and it is something that we will continue to work on,” said Coach Gina Holthaus. “In set two, we also missed some crucial serves. We know that these two things are controllable, and this is where we will focus our time and energy. We didn’t give up or give in, they kept fighting until the very end.”
