Warriors, Trojans stretch their legs

Saturday morning the South Winn and Turkey Valley cross country teams were on the course at Crestwood. The Lady Warriors finished third, while the boys combined for a fourth-place finish. 

Vikes hold own at Marcussen

Traveling to Waterloo Saturday, the Decorah swim and dive team finished sixth in the team standings at the 43rd annual Marcussen Invitate.
Decorah posted a team total of 199 points. Waukesha won the invite with 503 points.

SW gridders record falls to 2-4

Offensive turnovers put the South Winn football team (2-4, 2-2) into a hole it couldn’t climb out of Friday night as the Warriors visited the home of the Wapsie Valley Warriors. In the end, it was the home team coming out victorious 35-6 in the non-district match-up.

TV seizes win over Bulldogs

Keeping the fire burning from earlier in the week, the Turkey Valley volleyball team (10-11, 3-1 UIC) ruled the courts in Monona Thursday, defeating MFL MarMac (10-11, 2-2 UIC) in three sets. 
Set scores were 25-18, 25-20 and 25-14.
“Josie (Weber) did a great job again mixing up the sets and Adriana Tiedt had a great night hitting along with Kourtney Schmidt and Olivia Drilling,” noted co-coaches Tammy Vrzak and Jackie Novotny.

Decorah harriers closing in on season end

The Decorah boys’ and girls’ cross country teams made the most of the seasonal weather Thursday, competing at the Western Dubuque Invite.
The boys, ranked 11th in Class 3A, finished third with 95 points, while the Viking girls finished sixth with 136 points. Class 3A No. 4 Western Dubuque (Epworth) swept both the girls’ and boys’ varsity titles.

Score for Decorah; No. 14 Vikings take care of Waukon

It was a great night on the court for the Class 4A No. 14 Decorah volleyball team (20-2, 3-1 NEIC) as the Vikings defeated Waukon (13-9, 2-2 NEIC) Tuesday night on the road, 3-2. Set scores were 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16 and 15-10.
Although the Vikes had several starters absent, the squad had others step into the holes with success. 

Game point goes to Trojans

Momentum was the name of the game Tuesday night in Jackson Junction as the Turkey Valley volleyball team (9-11, 2-1 UIC) hosted South Winn (7-18, 1-3 UIC).
With the excitement of homecoming week in the air, the Trojans took the air out of the gym in three sets — 25-11. 25-25 and 25-12.

Warriors push TigerHawks to five sets

The volleyball teams of South Winn (7-17, 1-2UIC) and NFV (13-10, 5-0 UIC) faced off in a highly competitive match on Monday evening. The Warriors got momentum early with victories in the first two sets (25-23, 26-25), but NFV stormed back in front of their home crowd to take the final three sets (19-25, 19-24, 11-15) and secure a key conference win over the Warriors.

Lukes is week two football winner

Gary Lukes of Decorah is the winner of week two in the Pigskin Picks contest. Lukes missed two games last week, the only person to do so. 
A host of entrants missed three games; however, it was Decorah’s Curtis Vick who correctly guessed the tie-breaker to earn second. Jan Pfiffner of Harpers Ferry to third place. Pfiffner only missed three games as well but was only two away from the tie-breaker.
Kee again scored the most points this week, putting up 66 on Central Elkader.

Trio inducted into the TV Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame
