Trojans preparing for playoffs; defeat Tripoli
Monday, October 11, 2021 1:33 pm
It wasn’t just a win for the Turkey Valley football team (7-0, 5-0) Friday night, it was also the game that clinched the top seed in the district. Hosting Tripoli (4-3, 3-2), the Trojan offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage to give the Red and White the 46-12 victory.
“We played well again,” praised Coach Mark Scott. “On defense we held them out of the end zone until we gave up two big plays late in the game. Considering each team only punted once and they only turned it over once, our defense did a great job of not letting them score.”
Vikes limit Marion offense to 120 yards
Monday, October 11, 2021 1:32 pm
All facets of the Decorah football team (5-2, 3-0) were in sync Friday night, holding Marion (1-5, 0-3) to 120 yards of offense and just four first downs en route to the 52-6 district win.
“Our team played a very good game. We were physical and skilled. Keenan (Tyler) connected with Jacob Pipho and Joe Bockman several times on the night. They had trouble stopping our passing game. We ran the ball just well enough that they needed to worry about that part of the game too,” said Coach Pat Trewin. “Our defense and special teams played very well again. We won the field position game and after their initial run, we shut them down.”
Ohrt seeing progress in SW gridders
Monday, October 11, 2021 1:30 pm
Despite the loss, South Winn football coach Jason Ohrt believes he is seeing improvements in the Warrior (2-5, 2-3) team. Friday night, the Warriors hosted Bellevue (4-3, 2-3) for their final home contest of the season, dropping the district game, 22-6.
“We adjusted our coverage schemes on defense a little bit and that presented some problems for Bellevue’s passing attack. Keagan Streeter and Landon Garcia had another great game defensively. Lane Quandahl played his best game defensively this season. Despite being just sophomores, Brady Ohrt, Parker Timp and Brody Tieskoetter are playing very well for us. We are asking a lot out of those three kids and they just go out there and play at a high level each week,” noted Coach Ohrt.
