Talent abounds for Turkey Valley girls

The talent is there for the Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team for the 2021-22 season.
It will be a matter of putting it all together in the right combination.
Looking to continue to build on the strong program is Coach Carla Nymeyer, with a career record of 150-45. Joining her on the bench will be assistant coach Steve Hoffert.
Experience to pave the way for Trojans

The bench may be small, but the talent is there for the Turkey Valley boys’ basketball team this winter.
The Trojans have just 10 members on the varsity squad, with two seniors and four juniors that saw a lot of time of the floor last season.
Leading the team this season is John Izer who takes over for Chris Sullivan who coached the squad for 10 years. However, Izer is not a new face on the bench as he has been a volunteer assistant for many years. Joining him on the bench will be assistant Levi Izer, along with volunteer coach Ethan Leibold.
Decorah boys swim team built on talent

Graduating just two seniors, the Decorah swimmers have youth and experience on their side this season.
With three seniors this season, the squad returns 12 letter winners and look to be poised to do big things in the water this season.
Leading the squad is Head Coach Laura Storlie, who is starting her sixth season with the Vikings. Joining Storlie poolside as her assistant will be Decorah alum Maddie Putnam.
New coach in charge of South Winn boys

There’s a new coach in charge of the South Winn boys’ basketball team. And some new players will get the chance to make a name for themselves as a part of the Warrior basketball team.
After two years as an assistant coach in the program, Derek Taylor takes over as the head man. He’ll be looking to put together a team with four returning letter winners and a host of young hopefuls.
Taylor will be assisted by Mitch Herold.
Full roster; Warriors exploding with talent

The wrestling room at South Winn will be buzzing this winter — both from the number of athletes and from the talent they possess.
With 11 returning letter winners and a host of young grapplers ready to shine in varsity competition, it will be a busy and productive season for the Warriors.
Leading the talented squad is Head Coach Jake Elsbernd. He has been with the team for 10 season. This year, he will be assisted by Jason Schmelzer, Ethan Adams, Kenny Mikota, Dakota Gray and Jake Everts.
Seniors to pave the way for Lady Warriors

It will be a new look for the South Winn girls’ basketball team this winter.
With new faces on the court and on the bench, the Warriors will be looking for some younger players to step up and make a difference this season.
Justin Izer returns for his second season at the helm with a pair of new faces as his assistants — Ashley Walz and Alex Smith.
Sabelka signs to run at UIU

South Winn senior Eryn Sabelka signed her National Letter of Intent to compete in cross country and track at Upper Iowa University in Fayette on Friday, Nov. 19.

Decorah Parks and Recreation is hosting a free Turkey Trot! Run or walk the 5k or 1-mile loop that is marked out in the Decorah Community Prairie anytime Thursday, Nov. 25-28.
Last call for money

The Pigskin Picks contest wrapped up several weeks ago and the Driftless Multimedia office still has several envelopes of money unclaimed. Winners have until Wednesday, Dec. 1, to pick up the money or forfeit their winnings.
Decorah has 11 gridders named to all-district teams

Eleven members of the Decorah football team were recognized by being named all-district in Class 4A, District 2.
Seven of them are first-time honorees.
In total, seven Vikings were named first team all-district while four were placed on the second team list. Thirteen athletes were recognized for their academic achievements.
