Girls wrestling to become IGHSAU sanctioned sport

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Board of Directors voted unanimously to sanction girls wrestling as the organization’s 11th sport. The vote was made at the IGHSAU’s Jan. 12 board of directors meeting and was announced prior to the start of the championship round of the IWCOA Girls State Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Jan. 22, in Coralville. The first IGHSAU-sanctioned season will take place during the 2022-23 school year.

SW crowns one champ, team third

The South Winn wrestling team was provided solid performances by the strong nucleus of seniors at the Alburnett tournament Saturday to finish in a tie for third place with 104.5 points, along with Dike-New Hartford. Winning the team title with 222.5 points was Notre Dame, while host Alburnett earned runner-up with 161.5 points.

Cougars’ size too much for SW girls
