It was a big day in Decorah Saturday with the Vikings (16-5) defeating Ottumwa (14-10) and South Winn (12-5) at home in a triangular.

With rain breaking up the week Wednesday, the Turkey Valley softball team (9-5, 7-1 UIC) swept Central Elkader Thursday and went 2-1 at the New Hampton tournament Saturday.

Trojans fall to TigerHawks

North Fayette Valley (11-9, 8-5 UIC) had the number for the Turkey Valley baseball team (5-16, 2-11 UIC) this year as the Trojans fell twice Thursday at home, 17-2 and 19-2.
The Trojans will host Clayton Ridge Tuesday, June 21.

SW softball raps out 16 hits against Osage

Despite connecting for 16 hits Thursday, the South Winn softball team (8-9, 6-2 UIC) dropped a contest to Class 2A No. 13 Osage (15-2) on the road Thursday night, 14-7.

Warriors come short at Beckman Friday

The South Winn baseball team (12-5, 10-1 UIC), traveled to Class 2A No. 5 Beckman Catholic (15-9) Friday evening and played a top program to a tight game, but unfortunately came up on the short end, 4-1. 

Viking softball defeats Kee, falls to NH

Playing on the road back-to-back, the Decorah softball team (8-4, 4-2 NEIC) split the end of last week, defeating Kee High (8-12, 6-2 UIC) in New Albin, 8-3, Thursday and taking a loss to New Hampton (5-8, 2-3 NEIC) Friday night, 10-3.

Vikings stand atop league

In lone possession of the top spot in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Decorah baseball team (16-5, 12-2 NEIC) swept Crestwood (1-17, 1-13 NEIC) Friday at home, 3-1 and 13-2.
“I was really happy to come up with these two wins and our pitching and defense really did a great job,” said Coach Adam Riley.

Luzum’s two-run homer helps lift Vikes over W-SR

Rallying back from a five-run deficit, the Decorah softball team (7-2, 4-0 NEIC) remained undefeated in the Northeast Iowa Conference Tuesday, besting Waverly-Shell Rock (1-7, 0-4 NEIC), 6-5.
The Go-Hawks put up the initial runs of the game with two in the third and three in the fifth. Trailing 5-0 into the bottom of the sixth, Decorah pushed five runs across home plate including a two-run home run by Ellie Luzum. The Vikings held off any W-SR threat in the top of the seventh to keep the score knotted 5-5 with one more chance to claim the win in seven innings. It was the bottom of the seventh frame when Bryar Duwe scored on a Lani Hubka fielder’s choice to take the victory.

No. 8 Warriors thrash Postville; fall to No. 2 Newman

The South Winn Warriors improved to 9-1 on the season and 7-0 in conference play with dominating victories over Postville Monday before suffering their first loss of the season to Newman Catholic Tuesday.

Trojan softball sweeps Bulldogs

Going on the road in conference action, the Turkey Valley softball team (2-1, 2-0 UIC) swept MFL MarMac (3-6, 2-2 UIC) Monday night, 7-3 and 7-2.
After the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Trojans got on the board with two in the third frame and scratched across the tying run in the fifth. Turkey Valley rallied stronger in the top of the seventh with four more to take the lead and held on in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
