Mental mistakes were too much for the South Winn football team to overcome on the opening night of the season Friday as the Warriors (0-1) fell to North Fayette Valley (1-0) in West Union 35-6.
“We knew coming in that this was going to be a tough challenge for our young football team. NFV has an outstanding group of seniors and were just on another level,” said Coach Jason Ohrt. “I was proud of how our kids played physically on offense in particular. We moved the ball well and had some nice drives, but we struggled to defend NFV’s team speed. Lukas Weiss played a great game defensively, while Parker Timp and Keagen Streeter both ran very tough on offense.”

Looking to gain experience; Vikings return eight letter winners
Thursday, September 8, 2022 3:22 pm
With a lower number of athletes on the gridiron than past years, the Decorah football team will once again look to experience as the key to success in 2022.
A new quarterback and a rookie offense in the skilled positions, the Vikings will be a little green when they take the field for the first time. However, with eight letter winners scattered throughout the line-up, the season looks bright.
Overseeing a team hungry to reach the Dome is Head Coach Pat Trewin, who is entering his fifth season as the skipper, his 31st with the football program. He will be assisted by Michael Tangen, Matt Kuempel, Brian Waskow, Jesse Halweg, Scott Pierce, Steve Nesteby, Jared Bucksa and Montana Bohr.
